White Supremacists and Obama

Yes, it's true. According to the ever reliable Popbitch, Esquire magazine asked four of America's best known racists who they will be supporting in next week's presidential election, and strangely, Barack Obama comes out on top! Witness:

"Tom Metzger, Director, White Aryan Resistance: "McCain ... He's a scary, scary person - more dangerous than Bush. Obama, according to his book, Dreams Of My Father, is a racist and I have no problem with black racists."

Erich Glieber, Chairman, National Alliance: "Obama ... He's a very intelligent man, an excellent speaker and has charisma ... My only problem with Obama is perhaps he's not black enough."

Rocky Suhayda, Chairman, American Nazi Party: "White people are faced with either a negro or a total nutter who happens to have a pale face. Personally I'd prefer the negro."

The odd one out is Ron Edwards, Imperial Wizard of the Imperial Klans of America: "Obama, I think he's a piece of shit.""

I thought I'd go and see what the master race in the BNP had to say about Obama and what side they would come down on. Unfortunately, not a sausage can be found. Searching his name turns up one mention from July, when he visited these shores to thank Gordon Brown and Tony Blair for their support in the Iraq war. With bare-faced cheek they conclude their article with this claim:

"It is worthwhile mentioning that the first political party to warn that the entire war was based on a pack of lies, and should not be undertaken, was the British National Party, which published its findings on the baseless lies for the war on its web site in April 2003."

I had to laugh looking at your profile, Mr Cope. As hard as the BNP tries to shed its bonehead image, it's fun to see knuckle draggers like yourself undo all its work. People like you are really to be pitied.

Phil, looking at his profile it would appear he is on a wind up.
Unfortunately, you fell for it.

Wind up or genuine ... it's difficult to tell where the BNP are concerned!

Racists in the US may have other reasons for voting for Obama. He is a centre-right bourgeois politician, and the fact he is Black does not change that anymore than the fact that Thatcher was a woman changed the fact that she was a right-wing bouregois politician.

It is Obama's bouregois politics which will mean that he can offer nothing for the vast majorityof Black Americans anymore than Thatcher could offer the vast majority of British women. Those politics will inevitably mean that those who expect some real improvement will be sorely dissapointed.

The racists and the Right will, of course, not point to the fact of Obamas bouregois politics as the cause of that failure, but simply the fact that he is Black.

Well, that's interesting, in a cognitive dissonance kind of way.
Says nothing about rank-and-file racist mo-fo's, who backed McCain to the hilt, though.

Black America was rightfully overjoyed to have one of their own finally elected President; It was indeed an historic moment. I also voted for an African-American candidate; Cynthia McKinney (Green Party).

The howls on the right of Obama's "socialism" are just comical. Whenever someone rightwing nutjob wails "beware, we are a Socialist country now!", I remark with incredulity "Brian Moore and Stewart Alexander WON?? Who knew??" (Socialist Party USA candidates).

McCarthyite red-baiting is back in vogue in the USA; No longer content with denigrating the word "Liberal", now everyone even slightly left of center-right is a "socialist", in the hive-mind of the U.S. Right wing.

Depending on who the Green party nominates in 2012, I may or may not vote for the Socialist Party USA's ticket then.

I wish Obama good luck, and America will have a slightly less sucky future than it would have under McCain. But abroad, just expect a change in imperial tactics, rather than a repudiation of imperialism. But everyone here already knows that.
