Apologies to readers for slipping into Guido Fawkes territory, but I could not resist preserving this for posterity. The below picture is featured in this Mail article. View it quickly before Paul Dacre, if you'd pardon the pun, pulls it.

The Mail helpfully has an enlarge facility.

No doubt the Tories are hoping that because of the way public sector jobs are concentrated the lions share of the pain from their cuts will hurt areas in the north that vote Labour anyway. So fuck 'em.

If we had PR rather than FPTP Tory votes in the north east and socialist votes in the south east would count for something and you wouldn't get a party of government able to be so cavalier about whole regions of the country.

Certainly explains why us Southerners have effectively had to subside you Northerners via Council Tax...

As you will hopefully recall, the previous Government shafted Council Tax payers in the South, to keep bills down in the Labour heartlands up North.

As the Anonymous commenter says, we need to achieve a better/fairer balance across the whole country and some form of PR would probably help with that...!

You forget that, historically, the wealth creation centres of Britain were in the Midlands and the North. In effect it was these industrial heartlands that carried the economy for over 150 years. So next time someone comes along trying to play up the north/south divide to make cheap apologies for Tory policy, remember any subsidies the north gets is pay back for a previous era.
