A Lesson from North Korea

Fed up with the love lives of footballers plastered all over our useless daily press? The Jucheist skivvies of the Dear Leader Kim Jong Il at the (North) Korean Central News agency show how sports stories ought to be treated by the media:
Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- The national football team of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, embraces a lot of competent players.

Typical of them is Hong Yong Jo, famous for many scores he has made in international and local tournaments.

He, who has been interested in sports, especially football, from primary school days, is characterized by running fast, dribbling well, taking scoring positions in time and skillfully getting goals.

He has been active as a forward in many international tournaments.

He fully demonstrated his skill by scoring three goals in the home-and-home matches with Jordan at the third-phase preliminaries of the Asian region for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Hong, captain of the national team, was crowned with the title of People's Athlete last year.
Much, much better than the The Sun's hand-wringing hypocrisy.

I wonder if that was a text vote?

This whole John Terry affair is part of the Daily Mail led backlash against the indecency of the lower orders. The whole thing has become utterly hysterical, the guy had an affair for christs sake. Something which happens every day in every walk of life.

At least The Sun employs sub-editors.Or is everywhere home to those who subscribe to Kim Il Sung Thought?

SamG - the guy had an affair for christs sake.
With a team-mate's girlfriend.

I agree with you AVPS re The Sun hand-wringing hypocrisy. Have I missed something but why is having an affair (even if it is with a team mate's girlfriend) a sackable offence as England Captain? And on what grounds is it a sackable offence? Looks like Terry's bosses have capitulated to precisely hand-wringing hypocrisy and sensationalism of the tabloids.

It really tickled me how Terry gave The Sun an exclusive interview yesterday - after they'd blown the lid on his life. Either Terry is very forgiving or terminally thick.

Here's one possible reason:

though the author of the article does adopt a one-sided approach on Terry, attacking the press without asking why his and other celebrities pretensions to moral rectitude make them money and serve a function for capitalism.

Footballers make money because of the labour market rules in their industry. All Terry is doing is damage limitation. Nothing can get away from the hysteria surrounding this issue.

The press deserve all the stick they get, they are beyond the pale.
