V is Back

In the 80s they came as jack booted fascists. In the 00s the Visitors come as sharp suited corporate executives:



Looks okay, even if the CGI leaves a little to be desired. As a re-imagining it appears tons better than the woeful sequel to the 1983 miniseries. But in these animal-loving times will the guinea pig swallowing be consigned to the past?

    The two-part miniseries is all on Youtube. I know - I wasted a few hours last year watching them. So incredibly dated in a naff 80s sort of way. But Jane Badler - so evil and yet so alluring ...

    V is said to have originally been an adaptation of Sinclair Lewis's "It can't happen here" (fascism comes to the US). I liked the strongly drawn "US in central America/Visitors in US" parallels.

    Per the trailer the focus of resistance seem to be the clergy which is depressing. Still, the Chief Baddie Woman would make a good Servalan.

    Cool. Let's hope it's as good as the updating of Battlestar Galactica. I re-watched the original V miniseries a couple of years ago and remember thinking it would be really problematic to do such a series in the USA now, since the heroes of the show were terrorists. They even get their hands on biological weapons!

    I wonder if they'll go in for the same criticisms of the occupation of Iraq that the new Battlestar Galactica did. Since the visitors just come to earth to suck up natural resources, while promising to bestow the benefits of an advanced civilisation, it could be interesting...

    Hey it's Independence Day ;-)

    So they're hovering over Moscow because that's the administrative centre of Russia; London, and Rio for the same reason and of course New York because um?

    And before anyone suggests they've gone for city size Sao Paulo is larger than Rio.

    Ah TV logic, gotta love it.

    I loved the original, remember it being televised during the '84 Olympics. And Diana..... she was fantastic as the baddie.

    This looks too slick even for my liking.
