Politicall...I personally don't watch QT either. Politically, it is neither flesh nor fowl. For the most part, it is dumbed down pantomime.

Debate is reduced to people shouting at each other, disagreeing with each other. That's it.

The establishment, and the whole political machine and propaganda media that upholds it, is terrified of any narrative that moves away from a neoliberal economy and cultural left posturing. To rise in the machine, and to become more than a little cog, you have to internalise and regurgitate the New Orthodoxy effortlessly and mindlessly. If we were truly a democracy, we would be debating immigration, the economic system, the real dearth of representative democracy and anything else we chose to debate. In actual fact, do we really need QT or parliament to debate these things? We have the internet ...Tmbnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4486641877026778105.post-22773988355797792182018-10-14T11:19:02.116+01:002018-10-14T11:19:02.116+01:00I don't watch QT. It clearly has an anti-Brexit bias, and generally only has at the most one of the panel representing 52% of the electorate.

There is far too much time spent on the audience. No debate happens. The new Politics Live is a similar format in pundits but without annoying audience interruptions and more holding panellists to account. Much better.

As for Mike Goldsworthy and Scientists for EU. Scientists For Not Having A Proper Debate and Shutting down anyone Who Disagrees With Them would be a more accurate title, which is not a good look for scientists who are meant to be fearless investigators and critics of established views.Dippernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4486641877026778105.post-71477747462894648942018-10-12T15:10:34.528+01:002018-10-12T15:10:34.528+01:00Curious about your thoughts on the implications of...Curious about your thoughts on the implications of this article: https://mainlymacro.blogspot.com/2017/12/the-politicisation-of-immigration.html

It's about tabloid newspapers specifically and so not directly relevant to the BBC, but you can see clearly the tail wagging the dog when it comes to immigration - I wonder if likewise the BBC's scheduling of anti-EU / immigration figures first began before or after public opinion on immigration started to shift, i.e. if Newsnight scheduled anti-EU MEPs in response to or in anticipation of their proportionate support. Sounds like you have the scholarly papers to know the answer!Terrihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01655628697396607966noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4486641877026778105.post-71949158187249918582018-10-11T17:28:06.281+01:002018-10-11T17:28:06.281+01:00Just my two pennies worth. I always thought the BBC was pro-Remain, but there you go.

QT for me has become not much more than entertainment, a pantomime that few can really take seriously. You have the notorious one (Farage or some other) the Tory, the lefty liberal(s) and the celeb, a comedian or sitcom writer or so on. It's a glorified middle class dinner party without the wooden salad bowl and quinoa and crab salad.

QT simply reflects news and politics as a whole. It's dumbing down, but from the self professed elites, or as someone astutely said on here 'Opinionism'. Clever important people saying something, and somehow it's true. Our leaders, rulers, talking heads and opinion makers are wilfully inept, sheeplike, dumbed down and utterly smug. The Conspiracy of the Mediocre, in other words.Tmbnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4486641877026778105.post-39589841406810518472018-10-11T14:33:08.668+01:002018-10-11T14:33:08.668+01:00As far as I can see the evidence produced *does* b...As far as I can see the evidence produced *does* back up the specific claim being made (ie re MEPs): and certainly Farage is on far more often than his role in UK politics could possibly warrant.Jim Denhamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01642992463679646250noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4486641877026778105.post-52818130239394382492018-10-11T12:16:39.470+01:002018-10-11T12:16:39.470+01:00But Jim, this isn't about whether the BBC is p...But Jim, this isn't about whether the BBC is pro or anti-Brexit. The corporation appears to toe governnment hard-Brexit lines unquestioningly, there is a clear pro-Brexit stance from a few leading BBC personalities and a blind-spot for large anti-Brexit events. But there's something else too. The BBC has allowed itself to become the pulpit of arrant superficiality in debate.

"This seems to be misunderstood by defensive BBC personalities, who attribute Remainers' pique to hearing 'people you disagree with saying things you don't like'. (Nick) Robinson's article was headlined: 'Remainers attacking BBC should be wary of ending up with a British Fox News.' The sub-header read: 'The United States is now a democracy in which there are no shared facts and are only disputed opinions.' Yet this is exactly where the BBC has failed. It has stopped being a resource and communicator of shared facts, and instead become an arbitrator of disputed opinions."

http://politics.co.uk/comment-analysis/2018/04/17/what-s-actually-going-on-with-the-bbc-and-brexit-biasJim Denhamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01642992463679646250noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4486641877026778105.post-79275417883400079172018-10-11T00:05:35.808+01:002018-10-11T00:05:35.808+01:00Personally, I'd give up focusing any further a...Personally, I'd give up focusing any further attention on Question Time.
