Thereby allowing the four left candidates all to stand but, using a system like AV or the one used to elect mayors (currently in the process of being abolished and replaced by FPTP by the Tories), not resulting in the rightwinger winning as second and third preferences will go to other left wing candidates? This would mean that the (hopefully) left wing candidate who won would also be the most popular of the left wing candidates, not just the one who everybody thinks is the most popular.Steve3742https://www.blogger.com/profile/04716103297524245961noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4486641877026778105.post-79968259727732019872021-06-15T14:42:52.185+01:002021-06-15T14:42:52.185+01:00Well said 'anonymous' #1. A negotiation...There are no 'negotiations'. A negotiation in which only one party out of three is prepared to look at solutions isn't a negotiation. ST and SG have no intention of ever considering dropping out and had already announced as much last week. HB proposed solutions but was blanked. The strong left candidate can't be sacrificed to the egos of the other two. And of 500+ nominations, ST only ever thanks about 200 publicly - vs all 350+ named and thanked by HB. Machine networks can easily sort declarations, but it would be awkward for members who knew nothing about it to hear they'd 'nominated', I guess. Think SG thanked only a handful and reports are of reps flooding meetings they never normally attend. Big nomination nos are a potemkin exercise, perception not reality of member support...Stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17084797259631239552noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4486641877026778105.post-45207208861093505472021-06-12T00:55:52.719+01:002021-06-12T00:55:52.719+01:00And *how* exactly does Beckett "have the popu...And *how* exactly does Beckett "have the popular vote wherever I look"? And that, at the moment, is the man with the most nominations, including the backing of the largest branches. Steve Turner, in other words.'

So... you're saying:
- we need a Left candidate.
- you don't care who, it should simply be the best placed to win.
- you base your conclusion that Turner is the best placed to win and Beckett (and Graham) should stand aside on the no. of Branch nominations Turner has.

So, my question is: if Branch nominations really did translate into member votes (thus annointing Turner as the Chosen One) how has Coyne any chance of winning?

Could the answer be that Branch noms mean **** all to members? In which case, who cares if Turner's got them? Why doesn't he step aside in favour of someone who seems to have the popular vote wherever I look: Beckett?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4486641877026778105.post-43959092506299600052021-06-11T12:37:56.262+01:002021-06-11T12:37:56.262+01:00Steve Turner is not a rightwinger, and neither is ...Steve Turner is not a rightwinger, and neither is Sharon Graham. I'd find it really difficult to vote for Turner against Beckett, and I'm afraid Beckett will be tempted to capitalise on the number of people who feel the same. But you're right, of course - if there are multiple left candidates, Coyne will win.Philhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07009879034507926661noreply@blogger.com
