It would leave Palestinians and Israeli Arabs worse off. But this is all about a group of overgrown students and their radical consciousness, not about actually bettering the lot of the world's poor.

I'm busy that night.asquithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14246701347539264295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4486641877026778105.post-27561344141898357892014-11-18T17:27:42.905+00:002014-11-18T17:27:42.905+00:00I think outright condemnation of ISIS is poor poli...I think outright condemnation of ISIS is poor politics actually. I call it the George Bush Jnr approach to analysis, " We must get them goddam terrorists!".

The Western press like to highlight the foreign fighters, and like to play down why ISIS have made such strides with the Sunni's in Iraq, masses in Syria etc.

Too many on the left are prone to knee jerk condemnation, pejorative labeling etc and don't bother with sober analysis. I think this is an indication of the liberal bent of many on the left, it is probably to do with Britain's place in the imperialist world order. Your stance is an expression of this imperialist mentality.

The, let us call you/them, imperialist left also apply the same approach to the Kurds, except instead of presenting a villainous view they portray them in an heroic and romantic light.

Anyway, this is the true barometer of the demise of radical thinking, not anti imperialism (despite its obvious faults).

So put down the critical pen, go into the bathroom and spend some time in front of the mirror.Chrisnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4486641877026778105.post-57834371052234542942014-11-18T10:06:32.735+00:002014-11-18T10:06:32.735+00:00If I was a LU member, I would definitely favour a ...If I was a LU member, I would definitely favour a serious approach to elections - which *isn't* what TUSC have. The one advantage LU has over previous Trot projects that its its own entity, it's not beholden to a bigger group in the position of turning it off and on. So LU has an opportunity to target an area and work it over consistently. That's its road map to (modest) electoral success.Philhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06298147857234479278noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4486641877026778105.post-62709989564098989152014-11-17T22:48:47.344+00:002014-11-17T22:48:47.344+00:00LU needs to have a higher public profile, but that...LU needs to have a higher public profile, but that doesn't necessarily mean electioneering - at least, it doesn't mean electioneering first. The sight of tiny left groups with minimal local roots getting equally tiny votes in council elections always strikes me as deeply pathetic, and I can't beieve it does anything to mobilise anyone. (Indeed, you've made similar points yourself about your ex-comrades in TUSC.) Philhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07009879034507926661noreply@blogger.com
