As such, he took the chance that he would lose some support in the hope that the Lib Dems would become a semi-permanent coalition partner. Despite the fact that this looked highly unlikely after the defeat of the AV referendum, Clegg kept digging and was promptly rewarded in May.<br /><br />Now, as you suggest, they have a new man in charge who relishes the fact that he will never be held responsible for anything. As a result, the party will fit perfectly back into its default position of opportunism. I'm sure they'll han...They've blown it. I'm sure they'll hang onto a decent representation in local government, but I really don't see what they have to offer the electorate now.
