I remember being awoken from a fairly heavy night out to be told about the death - probably one of the first incidents where rolling non-stop TV news was tried out in this country in the modern era - and immediately saying I thought it was murder.

(I remember Colonel Gaddafi coming out with a similar line quite early on after the death so obviously I was always in poor company.)

Private Eye magazine has always maintained from day one that the driver was drunk and crashed the car and that was the end of it. It has never entertained the idea of anything being even slightly odd about the crash.

The long-standing editor of Private Eye Ian Hislop has also openly used his slot on Have I Got News For You to repeat the Tory lie that "the country has run out of money" and therefore we have to have cuts. Make of that what you will.

It would, of course, be useful for any powerful person or group to have the best-selling current affairs magazine in the UK, so often to be seen as the scourge of injustice, to be seen to backing your position.

Then there's Keith Allen's "Unlawful Killing" film. It's been derided by the press who have seen it and subject to much mockery. But it's also banned in this country due to "libel restrictions" in its current state and will never see a release. I don't care how bad a film is - I want to be able to see it. Not being allowed to see things does make you question why...

I don't think Diana was pregnant and I don't buy this constitutional crisis because of Dodi being a Muslim and I don't think Prince Phillip runs MI6. But it does seem to me that a few things, here and there, are out of place about the whole business.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it all. But given the sort of vile actions this current government are pursuing right now (the racist van, the bedroom tax etc), not a lot would actually surprise me in terms of what they are capable of.Alex Dawsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14197211489381075789noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4486641877026778105.post-83984990022495539112013-08-18T13:28:08.104+01:002013-08-18T13:28:08.104+01:00If indeed she was killed by someone in the armed f...If indeed she was killed by someone in the armed forces don't go looking at the SAS, check the ACC, Army Catering Corps, those bastards nearly did for me more than once!David Duffhttp://duffandnonsense.typepad.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4486641877026778105.post-25237864443101223922013-08-18T13:22:21.684+01:002013-08-18T13:22:21.684+01:00"If it turns out that The Star's headline..."If it turns out that The Star's headline is true, and the People's Princess was indeed killed by the military or a section of the secret services in cahoots with establishment figures, could you imagine the huge crisis of legitimacy the British state would face?"

The depressing thing is, no!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
