In the same way that Blair-rights have been prepared to lose a General Election in the hope of stopping Corbyn and putting themselves in a position to recapture the party in a few years time, so Remainer Tory MP's might well be prepared to lose a General Election to stop Brexit, and corral the ERG/DUP etc., so as to recapture the party.

That is especially the case as they know that a Tory Brexit, particularly a hard or no Deal Brexit will be catastrophic, and destroy the Tory party for at least a generation if not for good. Being out of office for five years is a rational option for them as opposed to being out of office for ever.Boffyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08157650969929097569noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4486641877026778105.post-24353199788588733862018-11-11T21:12:51.553+00:002018-11-11T21:12:51.553+00:00On the form of the referendum - use the voting sys...On the form of the referendum - use the voting system we have used in Ireland for some time - a single transferable vote from three options (assuming any agreement is reached). So you have two votes in the referendum, your first and your second preference. If your first choice has the least votes in the first count your second choice (if you have expressed it) gets counted.

This would leave perhaps 35% of the voting citizenry who care angry as opposed to the current 55% plus. Surely an improvement.

Secondly, the Tories are never going to vote for another election before their fixed term is up. Unless the alternative was even worse.

And the one way to get to that may be a vote in the British parliament for a three way people's vote, at which point some headbanger Brexiteers may decide their best chance of saving Brexit is with an general election.

So the way to a general election may be via a people's vote.GWnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4486641877026778105.post-25799431621780751132018-11-11T17:55:09.992+00:002018-11-11T17:55:09.992+00:00An extension to the Article 50 negotiations requir...An extension to the Article 50 negotiations requires the unanimous consent of all 27 EU member states. And I've read the reference back to your September article. It seems to be predicated on May's cronies claiming 'treachery' (so what! She will do - and does - say that anyway) and Leavers moving back from the Tories to Ukip (which is a busted flush).
